Meeting at Alexandra.
Oik correbpondent writes :— Mr K. Lake, M.H.R., nddrrs-ed the electors here on Wednesday night in the Public H.ill. Mr V.ilter Scott was called to the elmir. The audience was a very select one, judging from the number present. One fait that Alexandra well deserved the name of " Sl»epy Hallow " that on Rich an occasion so few were present. Except on election or polling day there is little political feeling manifested hero. Mr L ike's address w.is of course similar to w'liat ho had delivered eluewhete, and has been fully reported in your column*. He was /no->t attentively listened to. and favourably impressed all present. There was no claptrap or attempt to favour any local feeling, which is too often the ca«e in election speeches. I firmly believe that there was not a man present but acknowledged that a more honest man representative we will never have. On the motion of Mr ,T. D. Hill, seconded by Mr Jes-.e Bagc, a vote of thanks was unanimously passed. . Mr Lake acknowledged the vote, and proposed a vote of thanks to the chairmm, which was duly carried.
