FAITHLESS.

Thkou<;h all, in all, my trust has lived and grown A part of Life itself—the soul And spring Of that great love which you have idly thrown Into tho Past of dreams—a worthless thing. Remorseless, you have worn and torn my pride Unto the very shreds of human woe ; But Love's chief attribute, though tost and fried, Has learned in better measure how to grow. Because you h.ive been faithless unto me, My faith ii thereby made complete and whole; I love ton to the end, whate'er it be. And Pray God guido your weak, mistaken soul. You told me in time gone you loved me so That naught should dim or mar your boundless faith ; Perhaps you have forgetton —let it go ! 'Twero botter not to raise the dead love'a wrath. And yet I scarcely undent rod the heart That, loving, doubt-*, and, doubting, loveb the same : True love is trust unbounded, and the part Of tru->t h to e.vilt.love beyond blame. They toll me now you mock my tears and sighs, And call your vow? of love to me a jest ; I heed them not—howe'or your doubts arise I only know I love you still tho best. You have been faithless, but my solace is That somewhere in the years before you spread You may look back, rememb'ring only this— " She loved me, and was faithful;" else 'twere dread To gaze far into Life without your smile. But your heart's woakne.-u crowns my weary even— My love lives on by faith, and seeks tho while To draw you] by its'pray'rs to Faith's own heaven.
