RIOTS IN CHICAGO. FIFTY PERSONS SHOT. [REUTERS TELEGRAMS.] New York, May 6.
The labour riots at Chicxgo have now na«uined a very serious phase. Meetings of Socialists, numbering fully fifteen thousand men, were held yesterday in the city. The police authoritien ordered the crowd trt disperse, but the Socialists offeied a stubborn resistance, throwing explosive botnbs among the police, killing five and wounding many others. The police then fired upon the rioters, fifty of whom were Rhot dead, and a large number wounded. The greatest consternation prevails in the city, business being to a large extent at a standstill.
