NEW ZEALAND PRODUCE MARKATS.

We p\ti.iet tin; following from the, New Zealand Lrinn .tud Mercantile Agency Company's ciicular, d.ilud ChiKtchuich, April 22nd! WOOL. The daily cil>l<v mi- i<-><<mypil from L'>n don 111 IrfoicilCr) to tll>' ttitilliW l'l pi', pw, continue uio-.tdisc<uiragmi:ui tenoui. Until quite it'ctiitly, cow-so cro^s-bred* had not participated m the eeneral decline, but unhappily foe New Zetland this class this cla-s of wool has «nhVtvd within tin* liiitwoek to the extent <>f \d to Id peril). Tho hr^t j, r loam of h >pc wp'havo liad "inpp the >ipiiui o| encd, iiathcd in only thi<t days ,i^a, wh'Mi it wis leportcd th.it the French d-in nid f<n fine wool had 1111 pi<iu>d, whidihid linpiiter) a nrin<>r tone this section of the innk.t. The next seiieK oppn>, on thp 22nd June, sllH.i'MvlNs. T)LXH)IN.— Dm n^'uhi upokly .auction sal<-s continue to be well attended, but nwinff to the unsatisfactory reports of the London wool sales now being held, buyers npciatu with pri'\it caution. Countiy diy skins are slightly easier, but butcherpreen cioss breds are steadily advancing, prices now ranging from Is lid to 2s 2d ; merino, Is ,'Jd to Is (id. Alcki wo. — A moderate quantity has come to ( hand throughout the past month, and tliL market is >wth>-i weaker.

Tho markets of the fv>uth Island goneroily have bccu favourably ejected by the demand from Australia and Tasmania for wheats of various descriptions, but chiefly prime milling Tuscan, and chickfced. Stocks of tho former have been bought up when available, whilst supplies of the latter have become contracted by continuous withdrawals for shipment. It should, however, be noted that the unfavourable weather so long prevalent in most Southern districts, has created a supply of inferior and towl, wheat sufficient for immediate wants. Whether the Australian demand for our piiino milling wheats will be of long duration, *ia ft matter of speculation and considerable doubt, seeing that vessels are already on passage from Oicgou to Sydney with laige supplies of wheat from th.it famed diitrict. The prices at which this wheat can be laid down in Sydney, at the low rates of freight obtainable in San Francisco, enables it to competo on most advantageous terms, with either South Australian, Victorian, or New Zealand. Prom a circular published by a firm of Adelaide millers, we learn that negotiations have been proceeding for the introduction of Ciliforniun wheat into that market. These are important factors in connection with our locil markets, and the future prices likely to obtain, and should not be lost sight of by those who contemplate holding their grain for higher rates. The English market is more depressed than ever, and from the fact that cargoes are offering in London at current puces for delivery six months hence, we infer that brokers dp not anticipate any unpiovement for some considerable time. Shipments to London aie, tlierofore, out of the question in tho meantime. Chiu-,1 church. — Businoss has been active throughout the month, the chief feature being the demand for Australian trade above refened to. — Wh°at : Duiiuga few days e.uly in April the enquiry for winter w boats .slackened, and prices gave way :i penny per bushel. With diminished offerings, however, the market has rallied somewhat, though prices have not recovered their former level. Tuscan has continued in active request at up to 3s s^d f.0.b., for for prime lots. — Oats : There is very little alteration to note, tho market is slightly firmer, large shipments having been made to South Australia, and Queensland.— The amount of business passing is almost nil. Prime malting is saleable at 3s to 3s 4d, with very little offering. Second quality has a dragging sale at 2s Cd to 2s 9d. Feed and milling parcels are in good request at 2i> to 5s 3d f.o.b. Invekcargill.— Oats: Delivery of the earlier saved crops has been progressing briskly during the pant two or three weeks, and considerable business has been done in farmers' parcels of good short feed, at from Is 5Hd to 1» 10\d, f.o.b. Buyeis are not particulaily keen at present, as Australian markets display but little animation. A few transactions have eventuated with outside markets in shipping paicels, at Is lid to 2s. Since tho opening of the new season, about 11,000 sacks have been shipped from BlufF. Auckland.— Wheat : The quantity arriving diiimg thf mouth has bpon exceptionally heavy, the total being 13,100 sacks. A lirge poition of tins comes diioct to niilltrs" n'dri-, ouNkl' buveis .no c.iicful, owing to a fi'ir that sines >mc old stocks aie still iv ojrintonic. We hear of 4s being given for veiy [.nine sample, but this is exceptional; wo quote 3s 10c! as the present value.— Oats : Themuket for oats is very unsettled, and some laigo speculative ouler i h:i\e been sent south. Stocks here are fairly heavy, hut holdeis aie tin.), believing the advance of the season, assisted by increa«pd consumption, will enhance values. Only a small propoition of the local crop has come to market, and we hear the quality is hardly eqml to previous years.— Maize : There has been little change in the price, but if anything it is firmer, and we now quote 3s 4d per bushel. Oamaku.— Wheat : Wheat has come forward freety, nearly all parcels received display excellent qnility and condition. We have done a considerable amount of business in prime milling for not them millers, and on account of onr offices in New South Wales and Tasmania, at 3s .Id and 3s Gd per bushel, samples of ie:illy fiust class velvet fetching the latter figure, bags, as usual, extra. Our sales for tho month total 9,700 sacks. Fowl who.it has sold readily at up to 3s Id per bushel, sacks extra, and stocks arcnuw neatly exhausted. Frozen Mr it. — Theraha\e been some slight fluctuations in the prices realised for New Zealand frozen mutton in the Home Markets. The latest cablegrams advise s}d. to s\d per lb. as iiiling quotations, which, though showing a small decline on February-Much top rates, aie still satisfactory prices. DuNnniN.— Since our last, the 8". Aorangi and the ship fuxercargill ha\o left Poit Chalmers, tho foimer with 3,000, the latter with 11,(517 encase*, mutton for London. The Lady Jocelyn is now loading, the bulk of her shipment being from Timain, the balance from the Bmnside Freezing Works. She will take about 11,000 carcases mutton altogether. Chiustchuroh. — Tne ss. lonic left Lyttelton for London on the 3rd mst, with 1,1)04 carcases niuttton, and 2.937 carcases lamb from tljis district. The 11. M.5. Kimutaka is now icceiving a shipment from the Belfast Fieezing Worka of upwaids of 9,000 carca-es mutton and lamb. The next Bhip on the beith is the s.s. Coptic, for which a- cargo of some !1,000 to 10,00 carcases is now being prepared at Belfast. Timaru. —The Lady Jocelyn, at Port Chalmers, had taken on boaid 8,90S carcases on board. Acaigoisnow being propared for the ship Lyttelton, to load her next month, after which tho works will be busy getting ie:idy a cargo for a steamer in June-July, so that our local company is justifying its existence by steady and valuablo w oi k. Oamahu.— The Dunedin, now loading, has about S.OOO cai cases on board. Wellington.— Since last repoit the following shipments have been made fiom this poit :— Per lonic, j,4Si carcases mutton ; 5."
