THE EAST AND WEST COAST RAILWAY. [ BY TELEGRAPH.— PRESS ASSOCIATION.]
Wellington, May 1. A cablegram has been received from London announcing that the contract with the syndicate for the construction of th« East and West Coast and Nelson railway nan been assigned to the company, which » duly formed, and that its prospectus will appear in the London papers this morning.
Christchurch, May 1. The news of the Assignment of tbe Eatt and West Coast railway contract to the London company created as much excitement here as did that of the formation of the company. Sir J. Vogjl telegraphed to tbe Mayor, suggesting the holding of an open air banquet to celebrate the event, and a meeting will be held early next week to arrange for some such demonstration.
London, May 3. Th« New Zealand Middle Island Railway scheme ha* been successfully launched.
