Gold at Maungatautari.
It has also frequently been asserted that payable reefs exist on thi.s range, and Mr Mvclean, the well-known prospector, lias been engaged in the search for the precious mineral there, but has failed so far to make any discovery. During the last few days our reporter has obtained private information from some natives of a reef where they are obtaining gold, and at their invitation has proceeded to the spot to have a look at their find. The native owners state they will allow no white men to come on thoir ground* and will turn back any who come there to prospect. We shall await the report from our representative, and whether it be the result of native or pakeha enterprise, the establishment of a payable field in the Waikato will be a great boon to all alike.
