CHRISTCHURCH, Tuesday. Sir George Whitmork has succeeded in inducing the Hon. Defence Minister to consent fo the granting of capitation to cadet corps. When Mr Ballance was last in Cliristclmrch a deputation interviewed him on the subject, but did not obtain ft favourable answer.
Wi dnesday. A destructive fire occuried at Christ* church this morning a 14 roomed home owned and occupied by George Coleman near Belfast was burned down. Insurances arc : House £600 in Australian Mercantile Union ; furniture, £60 in Standard Office. The cause^of the fire if not known.
BLENHEIM, Tueidiy. The inquest on Whittington Lane, who was accidentally shot at H.uelock on Sunday morning, resultel in a verdict of "Accidental death." The jury censured the doctor for ordering the removal of deceased to Blenheim in such an exhausted state and in such weather.
DUNEDIN. Tuesday. The Official Assignee raeovpred, in tha District Couit to-day, £108 and £60 paid by White, a bankrupt, to his wife and brother, within about ten days of filing.
