PROPOSED WATER SUPPLY FOR CAMBRIDGE.
In view of the early proclamation of the tnwnship of C.iinbiidge as & borough, the public are already beginning to seriously discuss the question of water supply, nad there can be no doubt, if the proposal ii properly laid before the ratepayers, that a majority would support it. Many who wore formerly opposed to the scheme Are now in its favour. A striking example wti recently afforded of helplessness in can of fire, when the residence of one of the toAvnsmen was burnt down befors the owner's eyes without his being able to do anything to arrest the progress of the flames. Strange to say, the gentleman in question has been in the past one of the most bitter opponents of the water scheme, on the ground that it would confer no benefit on him, whereas had the township been in possession of a water supply his residence might only have suffered slight damage instead of total destruction.
