PISCICULTURE IN WAIKATO.

Two batches of well-grown trout were successfully despatched to Stoney Creek, Pirongia, yesterday, by the secretary of the Hamilton Domain 13oard, with a box of ice to keep the water cold, and a boy to attend them on the road. If they meet with no accident on their way, one of the best creeks coining down from the mountain will boon be stocked. Mr Hodgson*, who takes a great interest, and is an ex- Ip'erieuced man in these matters, has gone to a good deal of trouble in constructing a dam to keep them in a certain locality, where they may receive some attention, feeding, and protection, and it is to be hoped this time next year they will be 10 or 12 inches long. The fish are only springlingb, a few inches long now, and just begin-, ning to put on their pair marks, but in the second year of their growth they grow apace. We are sorry to report that Mr CJelling 1 met with a nasty accident while catching the trout for liberation, and some got away, notwithstanding all ho could do. -He ran a, rusty nail half-an-inch up the sole of his naked foot, and it is> very painful and s\yollen.
