INQUEST ON THE LATE FIRE, HOPUHOPU.

W. N. Searancke Esq., coroner held an inquest upon the late fire at the old mission station Hopuhopu. The mission residence ha* for sometime past been occupied by a Mr Thos. Me Donald and used as a general store. The Buildings and stock were insured in the Manchester Insurance Com pany McArthur and Co agents for £150 and £400 respectively. The following jury was empanelled :— Messrs R. Rathborne, E. Fitzpatrick, P. Kay, J, A. Lamb, D. He»derson, W. Butcher. Th« following i« the verdict recorded :— " We are of opinion there is no evidence to show bow the fire originated which destroyed the old mission station at Hopuhopu on the evening of the 15th March, 188 G." We wish to add that we consider M* McDonald gave his evidence in a raodt unsatisfactory and unwilling manner.
