Wk take the following from the ' New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Company's circular dated Cbristchureh, 25th March :—

WOOL. * The second series of tho year opened in London on the 23rd inst. Wo hayo received' the following telegraphic jidVice from our. London manasrer:— "The sales opened scarcely 'at level of last seriesshort staple Merino greasy market easier, cross-bred unchanged. T,he attendance of both home and foreign buyers is fair. Home buyers are purchasing freely, bnt continental demands are limited. The opening catalogue contained 10,000 bale*. The sales comprise 246,000 bales ; 50,000 have been sent direct te the manufacturing district."

GRAIN. ' Dunedin.— Wheat : This market has not shown much animation during the past month. There has been some enquiry for export, but sellers are demanding more than buyers ard prepared to give for the little to hand. Buyers offer 3s 4d to 3s sd, while sellers ask 3« fid to 3s 7d, ex store. Christohorch.— Wheat : The principal feature of the month has been the presence in the market of large intercolonial orders, which have had the effect of sending prices up 3d per bushel. Tu<can this year hns regained its palace of priority in price and favour 'in the.inxrkefc' jCurteqt quotations are ;,— Tu«can,v'3s «ibf.ab|sNrlunter's and Pearl; 3s '4S to 3s Sd^ftfFb "Shrivelled and thin quantities arc not! sought aftqr) and mny be quoted .at 3d to 4d per bushel less ; whole chickwheat has been in strong request at up to 3«. > " Auckland.— Wheat : Shipments from Southern ports, in almost all cases direct to miller's orders, have been fairly heavy, and the total is almost equal to last month, viz., (5,200 sack*. — Oats : Business in this line has been quieter than we anticipated, but we find holders quite as firm, and we shall not bo, surprised to see an advance ere lorg. Stocks are fairly heavy, and shipments from the South have been larger than usual, and make a total of 7,250 sacks. Maize : The price of this cereal has fluctuated during the month in sympathy with advices from Sydney market, and at the present time, ovving to an advance there, the value here is about equal to last reports, viz., 3s 2d per bushel. Some 700 bags went forward by the last steamer to Sydney. ' '. - } GisBORNE. — Ryegrass : Prices have been well sustained, and during the monih we have sold parcels up to 7s. The supply is getting very limited, and deliveries are confined to small odd lots. — White Clover. — Considerable quantities of th>s seed have been saved this season and put on the market in splendid condition. We have sold all coming to hand readily at 9d and lOd per lb. The attention of settlers is now being directed to the production ot this seed, and the quantity available for expoit will be largely iiichmmml next year. Those who have been usin.r the Poverty Bay white clover seed for some years past, pronounce it much superior to the imported article.
