Wednesday. THE fortnightly sitting of the KM. Court was held yesterday, Mr H. Kenrick presiding. The cases neard were'as follows :— Criminal :—Queutin y. Roberts, assault.— Plaintiff and defendant Are both wives of miners living at Waiorongomai, and residing near each other on the hill. There had been frequent quarrels between th*>m, which culminated in the committal of a violent assault by the defendant upon the plaintiff on the 18th inst. Defendant wu bound over to keep the peace for six months in her own recognisances for £10, and made to pay cost".—Police v. John Lloyd, charged by Sergeant Emerson with supplying liquor to a prohibited person. As ii usual in such cases, one or two of the witnesses gave their evidence in a very evasive manner, and were severely reprimanded -by the bench. The defendant, who is landlord of the Comirieici.il Hotel, Waiorongoraai, endeavoured to &how that the drink had been served without hi« knowledge, but this plea received no consideration, and the fall penalty of £5 was inflicted with costs, the offence to bo recorded against the license. —James Koycroft, the prohibited person referred to in the previous case, was brought up on a charge of assaulting his wife, and using abusive language. Notwithstanding the prohibitory older, it was shown that accused was frequently supplied with liquor by hotelkeepera, and it wa« to pre» vent her appearing in court to give evidence in Lloyd's case, that the assault was committed. He was bound over in bis own recognizances for £10 to keep the-peace for six months. Civil Casks : R. Mackie v. J. Qreen, claim £4 19* for bouse rent And grazing a cow ; judgment for amount, with costs 10s. Munro v.' Wallace, claim £2 7s 6d for wear and tear of blacksmith's tools hired by defendant; judgment for £16s 9d, with 8s costs.
