CONCERT AND DANCE AT RANGIAOHIA.

On Fiidny evening the concert and entertainment in aid of the library fund wu largely patronised by those specially interested, and also by performer* and visitor* from afnr. Without in any way detracting fion the merits of the other performer*, we cannot fail specially to notice the great event of tho evening. Thi* was the negro minstiel (burnt cork line) performance of Professor (^imckenbosh and hit dusky bride, nee Miss Cleopatra Julietta Sarah Lillyu hite, who delighted the audience with her nigger .song, "Dem Golden Slipper?." The Professor in turn represented the " Bones," the other corner man, and apparently all the concomitant performers of a iiiinitrel troupe. Hi* subsequent anatomical lecture, illuitrated on the black board with death-like accuracy (consisting of a dancing skeleton) was certainly * novelty in this district. Mr Gray was most snccesbful with bit legerdemain performances, and follow* very closely on the heed* of Profe-sor Baldwin. Miss Gray enraptured those present with her marvellous whistling, accompanying herself, as heretofore, on the pianoforte. Many who had the good fortune to hear this truly wonderful performance at the last concert here, twelve months ago, came from considerable distances to listen once more to th« trill of of the "OUhuhu Nightingale." The human voice ia sometimes polluted of great sweetness, but no pen can accurately describe or indeed convey anything like a correct impression of the dulcet and piccolo-like tones pro* itaced by what it seems almost sacrilege to describe as a whistle. Engines whistle— so -do little vulgar boys; both are objectionable, and whistling, as such, is generally in extreme disfavour. Ido not exaggerate when I state thnt to listen to the melody of the fair whistler to whom I refer, will amply compensate one for years of anguish caused either by mechanical contrivances or by hateful larrikins. Immediately after the concert Mr Sibley's band supplied the tr.usic for a moat enjoyable dance, whieh did not conclude till three o'clock on Saturday morning. If any inaccuracies appear in the subjoined programme I trust that I may be pardoned, as the dance caused an intense delight, and that small, sweet whistle is still ringing in my ears :—Pianoforte duet, MUs Finch and Mr Grierson ; Legerdemain performance, Mr Gray ; sons; by Mr Rigg, " The Tar'* Farewell ;'' Miss Gray, whistling and pianoforte ; song by Mr Staunton, " Killarncy ;" "Summer Shower " by Miss Finch ; Mr Gray's comie song, "Toniaponiapomtompotn j" pianoforte duet, MU* Storey and Miss Hunt ; duet, Mrs Andrew and Miss Griffiths; song, Miss Finch, "The Miller and the Maid ;" song by Mr Rigg, "Jack's Yarn ; the nigger performances ; song, Mr Staunton ; song, '* Sailing," Mr Rigg ; pianoforte solo, Mr Grierson. — (A Correspondent.)
