THE STEAMER HA WE A AGROUND.
[bt tbligsaph.— prrss association.] Nelson', Tuesday. An hour before high-water this morning, m the steamer Hawea was being brought into harbour, Piiot Low being in charge, the vessel failed to answer her helm when in tho Narrows, at the entrance, and with the way on her stem, ran ashore close to the leading lights on the Haven Rock, running up on the gravel beach. Her bows became bard and fast, and though the Muhinapua, which had just entered, went to her assistance, tho efforts to get her off were unsuccessful. At high-water this evening the same steamer fur over an hour tried to pull her off, and every effort was made ; but the Hawea remains fast, though she has slewed round a little. The Mahinapua then sailed for the coa*t. The tide to-night was a very poor one. The steamer should be efjt off to-morrow. She is upright and uninjured. Wednesday. The Hftweawas floated off this morning without any damage.
A meeting of th* owners ot swamp land at Ngaroto, is called for Tuesday morning ncit, at the Council Chambers, Ohaupo,
