WESLEY AN SOIREE A T WAITETUNA

A SOIREE was held at the Waitetuna scho >1 room, vii the evening of Tuesday, the 23rd, in connection with the Okote Wealeyau Church. Thf ru was a large attendance of -ettler* from all parts of the district. Mr VValhs, J.P., presided on the occasion. Trays were kindly provided by Mm Wallist, Misses WiNon, the bachelors, and *N»> by the young ladies. Mrs Johnson kindly lent her pianp fur the evening. After prayer by Mr Stephenson, the chairman in opening the meeting, expressed great pleasure in seeing present so many familiar faces. He said the object of the meeting wai to provide funds for re^hingling the Church at Okete. The following was the programme: — Piano solo overture, " Lucretia Borgia," Mrs Johnson ; reading, "Northern Farmer," Miss Spehce; solo, " Far Away," Mr E. Wallis ; " Christ Receiveth Sinful Men," choir ; address by Mr Pegler ; " Pilgrims' Mission," choir f reading, "Master Robert's Eccentricities," Miss McDonald ; solo, " Low at Thy Feet," Mr Stephensdn ; piano solo, Miss GHmour ; address by Mr Billlngton ; song, " Roses -Underneath the Snow," Miss Willis ; address by Mr Stephen^on. j J At this stage both the chairman and Mr iStephenson stated that they had heard it was the intention of some present to hold a dance at the conclusion of this meeting. They earnestly requested them not to do so, us the Wesleyan Chuich could not in any way sanction the earn ?, and after leaving the subject to their better judgment, hoped it would not for all concerned tako place. Duet, " Angels are Waiting. " After passing a vote of thanks to the ladies, bachelors, and young ladies for the trays, to the choir and Mrs Johnstone for use of piano, and Miss Wallis for presiding at the piano, to the chairman, etc.. the meeting concluded with the Doxology.— (Own Correspondent, Raglan, March 27th, 1880.)
