TROUT IN THE MANGATAWHIRI.

A correspondent in the Pokeno Valley writes :— What do you think of a large spotted trout having been caught in a small stream that empties itself into the Mo-ngatawlmi? On Saturday a Mr McPher&on, who is puttine in a s«tone culvert where the valley ro.id ciosses a small stream (Tupere, but generally known as Graham's), found this trout lying dead, it having b?en cut with a spade across the back. McPhcrsnn and pnrty had bepn dealing the stream of weeds and rubbish, an«l whilst doing so they must have cut the fKh. I saw the shoulder part of the fish, (the other pait had been cooked and eaten), it was beautifully spotted with red spots, about 4 inches in depth by about 2 in thickness. I should fancy it was at least a 4lb fish. Some seven years or so ago two or three very small fish \u«re accidentally let go in this stream. They were being carried along the road to the Mangatawhiu proper, and when the water was being changed two or three of them esciped from the bucket. Thinking that your Hamilton piscatorial gontleinen will bo ghd to hear that trout fme actually matured in the district, I write this s u that you may mako the fact known all over the district.
