It is well-known that what is called a thorough purging of the Judicature is "now taking place in France. In other words, the bench is being packed with partisan judges of all grades, from the ■ ' lowest to the highest. Bearing this fact in mind, the following "echo" in La Liberte is interesting as well as significant. A well known Parisian nobleman had just engaged a valet by advertisement, and as the latter was living in the aouth, lie sent 50 francs to pay for his journey to Paris. Imagine the Comte's surprise when, on the day he expected hi» valet to arrive, ho received instead this note, enclosing the 50 francs which have been mentioned :— "lam very sorry to be unable to keep my appointment ; ! Imfc if you turn to yesterday's Jonrnal Officiel yon will see the reason why I cannot become yoar vaset rle cbambre. I have, in short, bepn nominated Jnrige da paix for this commune.— Accepter, i Ac. 1
