CnuurAiii.K Aid CoNfuini'TioN'.—Telegrams weie re:ul from the Premier's office, stating that the .iinount of the borough's contribution would be deducted from the sub-udy, under Clause 2!) of the Ho-pitals Act.— The M.iyoi bdid he h.ul learned in Auckland that theie was no intention to levy rate-* for Chautable Aid, a.s the United Board had no power to do so. He thought the country was agieed that the Hospital .should be supported. Since then the abo*c telegram had been received. It was now for the council to say what should bo do'it\ The contiibution asked for was £"22 3d sd, which was. solely for hospital manaKCment. — Some diicu.ssion then arose, some of the councillor^ maintaining 1 that the money should not be paid voluntarily, as it would be aigued that they approved of tne assessment. Tt wab suggested that steps be taken to establish a hospital for Waikato, Waipa, Raglan and Piako. — The Major thought it would be wise for the country districts to retain their hold upon the district hospital. The amount of Hamilton contributions would be £'(i(5 per annum. Finally, on the motion of Cr. Tippen, seconded by Cr. Knox, it was resolved to pay the amount of the contribution, Crs. oandes and Scott dissenting.
Sturkc L\mp, <fee— The Secretary of the Presbyterian Church wrote asking that a lamp be erected near the church, and also drawing attention of the council to the bad btate of the culvert opposite the church. — The matter of the culvert was referred to the works committee. The application for a lamp was refused.
Borough V.u.UATroN'.s.— Mr P. Le Quesne .vrote complaiuing that his property had been assessed at much too high a rate. There appeared to be some misunderstanding in regard to this property. The clerk was of opinion that the value was reduced from £l(i2 to £100, but the roll only showed a reduction of £30.— It was resolved to defer consideration of the matter until next meeting, the clerk in the meantime to see the Assessment Judge and ascertain whether the figures on the roll are correct.
Extension ok Time.— Mr Whoelnn was granted an extension of eight months in which to complete the conditions of his lease of an allotment in Grey-street, Hamilton Eaat.
Wohks CoMMirrEK.— The committee reported on sundiy repairs, works, &c, whicli had bsen executed since last meeting. — Cr. Sandes complained that the main drain in Hamilton Wt»>t had not been propprly cleaned out. The grass had been merely scraped away, and it would not carry the water away in the whiter. Something more would have to be done before winter. — Cr. Knox said the owners of the property through which the drain went would object unless it was covered in. — Some considerable discussion ensued, and the report was adopted with the exception of that pait referring to the schoolnouse bridge, which was reported to be in want of some repaiiH. Cm. >Sandes and Tippen were appointed a committee to cvamine the structure and rep n b at next meeting. Salk\auds. — Thi-j matter was deferied for Another month.
SrithKr LuinriSL,.— The following tenders were opened for street lighting for the ensuing yew, contractor to find all materials :—1).: — 1). Cockhead, (!d per lamp ; T. Keep. 3os per week foi nine lamps only (informal) ; (t. M«iye*>, 3M per lamp; J. l)e\itt, 4J,d por lamp. Ti.e tender of G. Mayes was accepted.
Account^. — A nuniber of accounts were passed for payment, and the council adjourned till Monday next.
