THE PATHWAY.
«T WILL MEREDITH NICHOLSON*. A PATHWAY down which brewzes play And toss the boughs o'er hanging, It* winding cour&e leads far away From loud comuicicial clanging. A silver river winding near Across the low walk leading, In whose half-whi.spers one may hear \ lover's eager pleading. Upon each aide the wild flowers grow, With faces upward lifting, Whilst from their lips in ceaseless How, A soft perfume is drifting. Bat rarer sweetness than of flowers, Once down the pathway flowing, Is now a. shadow in the hours From off the Past's aeas blowing. What whisperings soft these trees have heard Of lovers 'neath them walking, Love's sweetness thrilling every word, That graced their happy talking ! No ■past, no future, just " to-day." Fpr those the love-walk mending ; That morrow pathway hid away, Saems happiest in its ending.
