ALEXANDRA. Visit of Capt. Speedy.
Captain Speedy. hearing of the anxiety of his old friends here that he should piv ns a vi<it, at onco with his usual cordiality gratified our wishes, and somewhat nne\jwctedly arrived here from Kihikihi on Tuesday last. Notwithstanding the short notice given, there was a fair audience present to gieet him in the Public Hall the same evening. Captain Speedys lecture, it is scarcely necessary to state was a most inteiesting one, the various scenes in Abyssinia in which the Captain had taken part were most graphically described and in a most amusing manner. The most bitter critic (if such a cre.itu.ro exists) could not infertile least egotism on the part of the narrator of these various and interesting experiences. His appearance in full dress character as an Abyssinian priest, as a citizen, and in the full dress robes of an Abyssinian warrior presented to him by King John, were most effective delineations. The marriage ceremony as described and illustrated caused roars of aughter. As the captain can within lthe limits of a single lecture give but a mere outline of the many interesting phases of life in Abyssinia, ho has kindly consented at tho request of many here, to again visit us on the 15th March next, when his lectuvo will include the Soud.in and what he saw there. Te Awamutu was fortunate for once in having fine weather for the troop sports on Wednesday last, and a pleasant days sport was enjoyed by all present. All those present at the dinner given to the Waiuku troop'at Host James's Hotel, were unanimously of opinion thnt it was not only the cheapest but the beat dinner that as yet been got up at Te Awamutu.
