FIRE AT EAST HAMILTON.

The residence of of Mr Hibgame, a four room cottage situated near the foot of Seddon'sHill, Hamilton East, wasdestroyed by fire at about half past 12 o'clock yesterday morning. Mrs Hibgame was absent on a visit to some friends at Tauwhare. Mr Hibgame was in the town during the evening and reached home about eleven o'clock and went to bed. He was awoke by the smoke and had no time to save anything of value, indeed he did not awake a moment too soon for his own safety. He is unable to throw any light on the origin of the occurrence, but is inclined to suppose that it arose through a defective chimney. The building was quite new, having only been erected a short time ago at a cost of £130. It was insured in the New Zealand office for £75, and the furniture and effects were covered by a like amount in the same office.
