GOLDFIELDS IN WAIKATO.

We have been shown by Mr Walker of Patetere, pome specimens of gold-beai'ing quartz, obtained from an extensive reef existing at Hoanga, on the Cambridge and Tanranga roads, about thirty miles from Cambridge. There are nine or ten men there at the present tune working the reef, a trial lot from which has yielded one ounce to the ton. Old miners speak very well of the appearance and indications of the reefs under notice. Within a very short -distance of Cambridge gold-bearing quartz, together with excellent slate -have been known to exist for some time. This is at Maungakawa and the colour has been found at Maungatautari. With such indications of an important character it is surprising that sufficient enterprise is not met with in Cambridge as is found in other placps to organise a prospecting: company for the puipose of testing the surrounding country for minerals.
