ALEXANDRA.

The late hea\y rain has washed a^aya portion of the filling in of the approach to the Alexandra new bridge at Wtutiwhatihoe on the south side. If thK is not looked to at once there will bo considerable damage done by the next rain, and traffic across the bridge for horses and vehicles impossible. There is also another work urgently required to be done by the Mangapiko Road Board. A culvert on the Te Awamutu-Alexandra road, near Jones and Gregory's farm has been down this la.»t month, to the great inconvenience of those who use this road. A gentlemau from Kawhia who had important business in Auckland some fortnight ago, who was proceeding to the train at Te Awamutu, through' taking this road lost the train, the drivnr of tho trap he had engaged not knowing the road was impassible. The public at present are trespassing on private land for a considerable distance, to get round the obstacle ; that is, those who are acquainted with the country do so. There hns been very little busineKS done here lately, (excepting in the police court, for which we have obtained some rather unenviable notoriety). So the hearts of our business people are somewhat rejoiced by the arrival here to-day of 4 non-com-missioned officers!, and 22 nen of the Armed Constabulary, who are, for the present to be stationed here.— (Own Correspondent.)
