Thb first day's races of the Island Bay Meeting took place to-day. The weather was fine, with a fresh wind blowing. About 5500 people were present, among whom were Admiral Tryon and the officers of the Nelson, Sir Geo. Whitmoro, the Hon. Messrs Buckley, Tole, and McLean. The course, consequent on the dry weather, wa.^ very dry. The following are the results :— LOCAL HANDICAP. Ugly Buck 1 Pink Rose 2 Leouata 3 Won easily. Time, lmin. 48 4-sths sees. Dividend, £3 155. HANDICAP HDBDLE RACE. Secietary 1 Master Agnes 2 Kangaroo 3 Won easily by two lejjths. Time, 2oiins. 51secs. Divideud, £3 %. ISLAND BAY CUP. Nelson 1 Captain Webber 2 Pearl ... 4 3 - Tasraan, Administrator, Pasha, Lady Emma, Armourer, Leon, Salvage, and Ugly Buck also ran. Captain Webster led for three-quarters of the distance, when he was passed by Nelson, who won rather easily by a length from Captain Webster, who wm half a length ahead of Pearl. Official time, 2tuins. 4O.secs. ; t private watches make it 2mins. 39£seca. Dividend, £2 shares, £9 145 ; £1 shares, £1 15s. SELLING PLATE. Mince 1 * Fisherman 2 Lifebuoy 3 Won easily. Time— lmin. 22iseci. Dividend, £2 4s and £2 Is. The Haok Hurdles was won by Sir William. Dividend, £5 17 sand £8 10s. TRAMWAY STAKES HANDICAP. Athol Daisy 1 Little Scrub 2 Miss Dargon 3 Time— lmin. 20secs. Dividend, £5 7s and £4 175. The day's programme was completed with a Selling Hack Race, in which Mateman (late Hinan) beat eight others. About £6500 was put through the totalisator.
