MR TOMLINSON OF AUCKLAND KILLED. [BY TELEGRAPH.— PRESS ASSOCIATION.] Nelson, Thursday.

Mr William Toillixson, "master of the Auckland (rraramar School, and son-jin-law of the late Samuel Kingdon, of *-hi« city, went out this morning with a doublebarrelled gun, intending to shoot gulls. He was accompanied, iby his little son, aged 12, and in climbing up a hill on-the \Vakapuaka Road, he'- slipped; when'the gun exploded, and the -shut from the charge entered his body like a bullet. He was shot right through the heart and fell dead. The body was taken to the residence of friends. At the inquest evidence was given that the deceased was on a visit to Nelson, and borrowed a gun from Mr Kingdon, hi«. brother-in-law, to shoot gulls. Taking hia son, aged 12, with him, he ascended a bteep hill, which was islippery, and, after firing one shot, sent his son to the top of the hill to see if any gulls were visible. On the lad returning he found hi* father dead, shot through the heart. The jury returned a verdict " That death was caused by a shot wound, accidentally received while he had a gun in his hands." The deceased was well-known and esteemed here, and great sympathy is felt for hia family.

The news has caused universal regret in Auckland where the deceased gentleman had re&ided for the past twelve years.
