The ranger h.i& c;'me out to ascertain the nrua n\ev which the fire has raged. All those who weie burnt out have been liberally supplied with clothes. The conncil chamber is full of clothes ;it looks like a clothes shop. The fund raised is not intended to reinstate settlers, but merely to relieve cases of destition that may have occurred. Many of those burnt out say they will bo benefited eventujtlly by fire clearing their land, and decline to take relief, being of a self-reliant nature. The grpatest extent of damage i« done to persons who do not require relief. The Relief Fund is still coming in, and the New Plymouth li-,t is nearly £800. This sum includes £100 advised by the Mayor of Auckland, and £17 collected at the New Zealand Times office, Wellington.
