The annual meeting of the Presbyterian Synod commenced this evening. Pro* fessor Salmonrl delivered an address. He referred to the press as a powerful competitor of the pulpit, and also expressed the opinion that doctrinal distinctions are becoming blurred. He recognised the general good and evil in the changes taking place. At the annual meeting of All Saints' Church, Bishop Neville offered to contribute £2000 towards paying off the debt of the church, provided its use is given for a cathedral though still carried on as a parish church. The offer was accepted, Wednesday. The Hon. Mr Stout authorises an emphatic denial of the rumour telegraphed yesterday that there is any intention to change Sir D. Bell from the AgentGeneralship. CHRISTCHURCH, Tuesday. In the Divorce Court to-day, in the case of Smith v. Smith and another, the decree nisi was nude absolute. In the case Mosley v. Mosley, the wife petitioned, and, after hearing witnesses to prove adultery and cruelty on the respondent's part, Judge Johnston granted a decree nisi. Similar decrees were granted in the case of Moss v. Moss, in which the husband petitioned ; and in the case of Dutton v. Dutton, in which the wife proved two years' desertion by her husband coupled with adultery.
