[by telegraph.— press association. I CHRISTCHURCH, Sunday. The bones of an infant were found in a garden at St. Albans last night. Abbott, occupier of the house, had only been in it a week, and found them a few inches below ground in a box. Mr Wakefield addressed bis constitu* ents at Leeston last night. He taid he was not likely to take office if offered, especially under Major Atkinson. He opposed borrowing and protection. A vote of no-confidenco was proposed and lost. A vote of thanks for his address was carried. A lad named Donald, aged 17 years, was drowned on Wednesday at the mouth of the Conway River in Boat Harbour, while bathing. The body was recovered. Monday. This morning a young man named J. Walter Tucker, employed as a plumber, fell from the upper floor of a new build* intr at Morton's Block, and sustained a compound fracture of the right leg, com* minuted fracture of the thighs, and in* juries to the head. He is in a very critical condition.
WELLINGTON, Sunday. H.M.S. Nelson arrived in harbour front Auckland between two and three o'clock this afternoon. Col. Whitmore returned from Napier this morning by the Manapouri, and will, it is understood, accompany Admiral Tyron when the Nelson visits Lyttelton.
DUNEDIN, Monday. A woman wading near Fort Chalmera got out of her depth, and was only saved after Mr Logan, of the Customs Office, had gone to the assistance of threo lads, who found the task of dragging her out too much.
