HAMILTON DOMAIN LANDS.

Tfic following isa lust of the allotments m the Borough of Hamilton which the Governmsnt have sif^nsfied their willuigne-s to hand over an domain lands to the borough and to delegate the powers for admin Ntei ing the <-anie to the Borough Council. In all thuie are 100 acres of additional land-, winch added to the Galloway-street ie<erve t.f 10 acrt's :ind al-n the 13G acres Peach Grove l*C"»crvo whicli a short time since was «et aside for secondary edueatiomd l>urjM»«es in Hamilton, make a total area of3oGacics.

Touching the 13t> acres of Peach Grove reserve, we are of opinion that that land would be very suit ible for a School of Agriculture, and as inch an institution is much needed in Waikato, it is well worth the while of those interested in the movement for in Aarrii'iiltuivil College to consider the ad\i«ib : liry of commencing in a moderate way upon the Peach drove re-erve, which eventually, when tho school had grown into the requirement-* of a College, could be turned into a. public park or domain, and a larger area secured in one of the adjoining counties to build a College. Professor Black and Mr Ta>lor, when speaking at Cambridge upon the importance of our farmer* understanding the properties and requirements of the s-oils they had to till, and the necessity of understanding Agricultural Chemistry where many chemical manures are lined, states that a tenant, by using a ceta n cheintcil manure at the rate of about two hundredweight to an acio, might raise a good crop fur himself, but ruin his landlord by bin insr e\h waled his land for several years following. Wo merely mention this with the desire of calling attention to tho retuaiks which h.ive been made by eminent men such as Professors Mclvor aud Black ut various times recommendatory of a school of agriculture for Waikato. And a:<thehon. the Minister for lands expressed his willingness to supply the apparatus, and .1 competent master if a site of 100 acres weie set apart for the purpose, we suggest the Peach Grove sis a very good site indeed. Returning to the lands to be handed to the council under the Domains Act, wo understand that at their next meeting the council will consider the proposed improvements which have already appeared in our columns, and calling the burgesses together in public meeting to express their opini.in upon same. The people of Hamilton have reason to teel grateful for the prompt fulfilment of his promise to hand these lands o\er to the borough, and it will now rest with the burgesses whether they will .sanction the raising of a sum of money to push ahead the borough as contemplated.
