SECOND DAY. The racing on New Year's Day was quite as successful as that of Boxing IJuy. Ihere was a largo attendance, and tho weather was again fine. The following aro the rcults :— Auckland Dehuy. Thero was brilliant sunshine and good sport, but an exceedingly d»y course. Newmarket Handicap. Necklace, (Byer&) 1 Mitrailleuse, (Sutherland) ... 2 Tetford, (Williams) 3 Foul Shot, (Kean); Woodnymph, (Taylor) ; Torpedo, (Wood) ; Clogs, (Penny); Salvage, (Huxtable): Revolver, (Kidd) ; Contractor, (Mcllroy) ; Citubtrope, (Little) also ran. Luna was scratched. Betting : 2to 1 Mitraillensp, 3to 1 Necklace and Foul Shot, 8 and 10 to 1 tho others. After nine or ten ineffectual attempts to get the hofres away on oven terms they were despatched to a fair start. Necklace went olf with a slight loud, hotly presaed by Revolver and Mitrailleuse, Foul Shot being fourth, and Tetford hfth. At the top of the stretch, all these horses, exct- pt Foul Shot, closed together, and going *t a rattling pace. After this Necklace again went to the front, and led all the way up the straight, winning rather easily. Totalisator dividend: £7 3s. Time, lmin, 14^ seca. Nursery Handicap. Crcmome (G. Howitzer and Crem<>rne went off with the btart, while Camion had the worst of it. At the top of the stretch, Creinorne was leading, while at the entrance to the straight, Teniora took second place, and a little later Howitzer was also passed by Cannon. Creinorne was never dispose wed, and won by a length or so. Time, limn. 18£*eci>-. Totahsator dividend, £37j. Auckland Plate. Stoneyhurst (Broivu) 1 Tasman (J. Kean) 2 Turquoise, Carbineer, Capsiza, Foul Shot and Alpine Rose were scratched. Betting : 2tol on Tasman. The two horses got away well together, bub immediately afterwards Tasman forged a- head and led by half a length the first time round. Tho position was unchanged until reaching the top of the stretch, when under the stimulus of the whip Stoney hurst gut on even terms with his rival, and a neck and neck race ensued till the entrance of the straight, when the chestnut came away and, without further whipping, won by a length, while Tajman was severely punished.
