An old man named Finny committed suicide by cutting his throat with a raror. DUNEDIN, Monday. Judge Williams presented medaU and certificates of the Royal Humane Society of Australia to J C. Miller, Rich. Philan, and Win. Polloki. Miller and Philan swam out to sa\ c the High School boys on the island off Ocean Beach, and Win. Polloki is the Maori who swain in and saved Mrs Maurice at Point Molyneaux, the Rev. Maurice having been drowned on the same occasion when trying to save his wife. In making the presentation His Honour said th.it Rich. Philan had alieady at different periods aaved aix persons from drowning at the risk of hia own life. He also saved a little girl who wj3 in jeopardy fiom a runaway horae. The Premier, in moving a vote of thanks to the mayor, Justice Wilha.ni, sod those present, expressed a hope that ha would soon establish a New Zealand branch of the Humane Society.
