Lovnov, It has now transited that the manifesto on the Iri-.li quo-turn, purpmtinff to have emanated fn-iu Mi Glad-tone, was a ' pilot balloon," set afloat by Mr Herbeifc Gladstone to learn how his father would bo likely to act if Lord Sahsbuty refused to accede to the liish demands. The disclaimer published by Mr W. h. Gladstone does not deny the intentions ascribed to him in the manifesto. The letter w'nch was published in the Titnen on the bubject by the Marquis of Hartmprton, w,n written by him after travelling to London to &oo Mr Goschen. Both the Marquis of Harfcingtoij nnd Mr Gosclieu aifl evidently opyoied to the formotion of the Irish Parliament. The agitation caused by tho manifesto is now subsiding.
