KIHIKIHI.
Somk di«itisfaction is expie^cd at tin 1 Act pa*sed \y the Hmw during the list session, gn ing county councils the entue contiol o\ei those portions of th> j main ii id which inn thioagh town distiicts. It would be unreason ililo to expect tlw councils to spend tnoic money on Mich portion 1 ! tli in on otheis, and owing 1 to the gieatoi iiiimint of traffic the wear nnd tear are greater than m other pi ices. This is especiall\ the case heie in lxilnkihi. Tlio main road is on the highest p utioii of the town, and the diainage flora it, unless taY piopei outlets for stoini water aie Kept constantly cle.ir, is apt to damage the sheets on .1 j lowei level. It is quite evident the conn ' cil cannot afford to keep a mm constantly looking after this work, nor can they bo always present to anange disputes as to removing eaith, and other matters which could only be settled hy the council. Sec tion 10 of tho Counties Act Amendment of last session says the county council shall have contiol of eveiy portion of the main road or county road which tnweises or lies within the limits of a town distiict. This seitously affects the pi mcipal street-* heie, as Lynn and Whittnorv streets aie the county road, .mrl are those ino^t used, they beinj? tho main fleets. Such being ihe case more money is required to keep them in repair than the county council can well affoid, and it would requne 111010 money than the rates aceiumg from pio pcrties abutting on tlirm for this work. Tho board would piefoi their being handed o\er to them, so that they could ha\e the contiol of them, the council subsidising the loc.il body with a certain portmn of the lates for the specific purpose of keeping these btreets in repur. This would be of benefit both to the council and the boaid, for the former would be iebeve4 of the responsibility, and the lattei would be justified in spending money on them. A concert in aid of tho funds of the Citholic Church will be held in the Town Hall on Wednesday, #)th 111 st As it is expected that some Auckland ladies will assist as well as all the local talent a\ailible, the public m\y confidently expect a goud evening's amusement. As nn additional attraction the Te Awamutu band under Mi ttibluy has been engaged for the occasion. One of tho men engaged on one of tho contract* of tho trunk line v\ as robbed last Saturday week of £11. There weie two £5 note-) and £1 in silver. Aa yet there is- no cluo to the thief.— (Own Correspondent.)
