RAGLAN SCHOOL.
The break imy up of the Raglan scholars for tho Christmas holidays took plac« on Friday, tho 11th nist. Parents, guardians <uul friends of the children assembled together, and between 80 and 100 wore present. The weather was beautiful thioughout the d ij'. During the afternoon, in the grounds <>f the teacher's residence, games of all snrts were enjoyed by both young and old, many of the latter feeling themselves boy-, and girl* once more. Tho schoolroom looked quite picturesque. The flor.il decoiatums weie •u ranged with gre.it taste, <md the general effect most charming. Invitations to both young and old hid been sent by Mr and Mrs Horsey, and the tea mo^t kindly provided by them. Tho tables wpk> presided over by Mih Horsey, Mrs Bulford, Mi-<s Jessie Moon and Misa Mitchell. Mhs M. (iilmour and Miss McClaien rendered valuable assistance in tho arrangements of the refreshments, winch were everything that could bo desired. After tea tho school room w.is cleared of the tables, and frag ments left enough to fill many baskets. The distribution of pri/.os next took place, being 1 kindly piovidud by the friends of the chil dien. The Kov. Mr Stephens-on kindly oc ctipied the chair, and spnke earnestly and in a very kind mannoi to the childion upon the advantages, of education, and the efforts which must bo applied to attain educational distinction. Tin; churtnan of the Ragl in Distuct School commissioners, Mi Fnssel, wah a few appiopriate word-t to e;ich successful scholar, distributed the pmes to (Jeorgp (Jilm >iir, Fiedonrlv Hoi>i>v, Millie (Jilmonr, 4th stand.ud ; Vernon X JVj,li'i, May Moon, 3rd st.iud.ud * Saiah Newton, 2nd standaid ; Frank Bulfoid, Kain Tukah'i, and Harriet Claik, Ist standard. Scrambles for nuts and lollies followed, to the intense delight of the jmcnile*. In-door games for the amusement of all present were indulged in until 10 p.m. A \ote of thanks to the cliainu m for so ably pie^u! ing, with three choer-i from the ymingstpn, and a voiv lion tv one to b ith Mr and Mis Hor-ey, the teachers of this fortheir kindness in providing at their imn e\pense so ajrieeable a d.iy's and evening's, entertainment for both young and old, concluding with hearty cheeis for them, a \eiy agreeable break up foi the R'lglan school Aftei the depaiture of the child i en, d incmg commenced, and was kept up until 1 a m., when all -separated, h:w\ing spoilt a day to b» remeinbored by the Raglan folks. — (Own Coi respondent.)
