THE VICTORY OF ELECTRICITY.

Since Electricity has been applied for Hunting purposes, all efforts of inventors have been directed to construct a lamp for general domestic use. The reason why this pioblem has till now not been solved, is that none of the inventors could nil themselv es of the idea of gas lighting, and that all have adhered to the system of producing the Electncity in some central place, or by large machinery, instead of first laying down the principle that a Lamp which should ever become generally useful and popular, must be portable, liUc an Oil La.np, and contain the goneiator of Electricity in itself, i.e., iv the foot of the Lamp. The Norman Electiic Light Co. has at last succeeded in completely lealising this ideal of Electric Lighting, and thenis no doubt that this most important invention will bring about a complete revolution in all branches of lighting. Our Electric Lamp iu<d\ nulhu Mariano)), Conductor*, nor any expensive outlay, and is neither complicated, nor disagreeable in manipulation ; all that is necessaiy is to refill it every four or five days with acid. The co*t of lighting v ill be as chtap gnu (£ cents per hour), and it has before the latter the immense ad•v.nntjyo of neither producing the heat, smoke nor carbonic acid, O\\ nig to Which the aii is not impured, aud remains at the same decree of temperature. It is fuither, absolutely inodorous, and does not need to be kindled by match, or otherwise, but simply by turning the key, thus oviwlinq till dungo of fie, explosion or suffocation, a*, in the case of gas, if the key is left open ; and it must be conceded that this advantage alone is invaluable. It is further preferable to any known kind of lighting for the following leasons :— (1) Its manipulation is so simple that I any child could keep it iv order. (•2) That the Lamp i« poi table, and can ! be removed like any Orl Lamp, from one place to another. (U) That it neither requires the disagreeable fixing of the wick, or the cleaning of the cylinder, as m the case of Oil Lamps (4) That the light produced is a soft and most steady one ; that it never flickers, and the flame, though being equal m power of lighting to gas, can be legulated to any degree. (.">) That cvog danger of fie is ah%ohitelg cxcludid, as the light Will extinguish immediately, if by any accident the glass surrounding the buiner should be broken. (6) That it will burn, even in the strongest wind, completely unaffected, thus being invaluable ioi illuminations, lighting of gardens, corridors, etc.
