OHRISTCHURCH, Monday. Win Harrison, whose house in A\"illiainbtreut was discovered on lire under very suspicions circumstances on November 23rd, was to day committed for trial on a charge of arson. The hearing of the case occupied all clay. In addition to the facts previously telegraphed it was elicited that a large billy full of kerosene Mas on the premises, concealed in an oven some days before the fire. Accused was seen about the house, which was unoccupied about two hours before the fiic. A piece of Oamaru stone with a hollow in it, in which was a bit of lighted candle, was found close to some burning rags, soaked in kerosene, and on the premises where accused lived another piece of Oatnam stone was found, which fitted exactly to the former piece. A meeting of the Moorhouae Statue Committee was held this afternoon, *t which the Governor attended. It was decided that the statue, which is being srected in the domain, should be unveiled on December 22. WESTI'ORT, Monday. An apparently determined case of •uicidc has occurred at Denniston. A girl named Martha Kerr, aged 12 years, dr.iuk tea in which she had soaked matches, and died yesterday. An inquest will be held to-morrow.
