Cr. Grace occupied the chair j»ro tein. Cr. Uermann proposed Cr. Fisher as chairman of the council. Cr. Fisher declined the ofh'ce on tho . ground that he was ft new member of the I cjunul, and therefore had not >-een it workI ing. He thought one of the older members should be chairman, and pioposed Cr. (Jerm.inn as a suitable chairman, and onu has ing the confidence of the council. This was neconded by Cr. Tcasdale and carried. Cr. (iermann, having accepted the officp, said he could only do so, provided the council woiked an harmoniously as in tho past, nnd that councillors gavo a piompt and regular attendance at mooting*. At tho conclusion of tho annual meeting, an ordinary business meeting was held. Cr. Corboy tonoborated the statement, and the matter wai dropped, lie Mr Foxall'i complaint of damage from the county drain. Tho Engineer explained that other drains had been cut into tho tonnty dtain, causing a great deal of silt, ns no precaution was taken in sluicing. Two weeks woik would sufficiently clear the outf.il). -It was retohed to obtain the opinion of Messrs Heaketh and Richmond as to the right of private individuals to use the county dram, and how the council can (^ protect itself ; also, that Mr Foxall be informed that tho council will complete the drain when it can better be ascertained wh.it is necessary to keep the otitf.ill open. Bearaley, road forming, Gs per chain ; gravelling, 12s 3d pet chain ; excavation, <>d per cubic yard ; pipes, 20s ; Hide drains, 2s per chain. Cntniuw.K Bhiih.k.— It was agreed to invite tenders by next meeting for painting the bridge, it being now Hcrewed up and in proper repair. Kooipvthh at Tk Awwhtu. — It was agreed to grant permission to the Te Awamutu Town Board t<> make footpaths along tho county road, and the mm of £4 was granted to clear out the watcr-tublcs.
