Farther details in regard to the safe return of the Australasian Geographical Society's expedition state that, iiftcr ascending the Fly River as far as possible in the Bonito, they took to a whaleboat and proceeded some 80 miles up the stream. Here they encountered a numerous body of native-s, whom the) describe as a fine race although exceedingly shy and hostile to sti angers Captain Evcrill states that he found it impossible to hold any friendly communication with them, and the jungle was so dense that he returned without beini; able to penetrate any distance into the interior of the country.
