Anher. Hnndicapper:MrJ. O. Evett. Starter*. Mi (). C. McOee. Clerks of the Cuirse : Messrs Smale and Rhodes. Clerk of Scales : Mr H. Abhcr. Secretary ;Mi W. Carr. Treasurer :Mr J. Allwill. Thene races took place at the Jockey Club'aci vi *c at (i vvyntielands yesteidaj , and from a racing point of \ lew resulted in a most decided success. It v, ould beent, how - ever, that for the past few year* i.icing has been on the decline in \\ aikato, and the o\i)enence of the Cambridge Jockey Club bo far ad the attendance .it their meeting is concerned has not been an exception. It is hard to know to what cause to attribute this growing decline in the flirting community of Waikato, but in the cane of this club the fact is beyond doubt that the inconvenient situation of the course has a lot to do with it. But as a change is contemplated this evil, or cause of failure, will soon bo removed. With the exception of the dis tnct, the meeting was not in any w.iy lepresenUtive of Waikato. The absence <>f » band of music was \ei) noticeable., but this the club could not remedy, as imihic, like any other form of happiness m Waikato at the present time, is an expensive luxuiy. The weather wax ewiything that could be desired, and the arrangements of the stewards generally weie perfect, and of such a character as to reflect creditably on the secretary, Mr Carr. Ax to the betting, the totalizator was fairly Hell patronised, but there were tin large dividend*. Thine was an entire absence of the booking 1 fraternity, in fact of Auckland viMtois ot any description. Kalo and Misfortune were the only out-ulo lcpresentativts, and they did not .succeed in doing anything Mr (). Mc< lee's set vices as itartur gave entire satisfaction, and was the subject of complimentary rein.irk. The ci.md <tand was very thinly |iatroni.sed, the f.nr >r\ being meagrely rjpn> snt sd. Mi A 14 vc'i had the grand stand bar and the dining room, and his catering was universally approved of. Tho day p is-ed off without a hitch of any desenption, and those who p.itroitiaed the Spung Meeting of 188.") were to nil appearances highly pleased with the days racing. As to the lacing, though (>nly two horses started f>r the hurdles, the event wa«, _ nevertheless, full of interest, and resulted in a ino~t exciting hnish. Both horses weto pretty evenly supported, but Mr Cm\ littlo hor-e was if anything the favourite, ,md had he been brought t* thi! front sooner at the hiii-h, he would have scored an ea»y win. The Spring Handicap was a splendid race. Kalo wan laigely fancied, but Victoiu went to the |x>!tt a favounte. The event, however, resulted in a boil, over f"r Alpha, who won, to all appearances, as he liked. Kalo, after going half-wny lound, wagged his tail and refused to g.illop, and Rewi seemed to follow hus example. Alplu, as may be expected, made a big dividend for his supporters. Eight hordes startel fur tho Maiden Platu, which proved one of the best events of the meeting. Mistake being .v local lituto was well backed to win, but Orphan galloped home serenely, and seemed to win as he liked. It was expected that the Steeplechase would lesult in an exciting contest, but Rowdy setmed to canter round pretty well as he liked, and won hard held. Bob Saw yet proved him self a plucky horse, and was well handled by hi* owner, Munro. He came in well at the finish, nnd made a good second. The Fr»-e Handicap, for which only two .started, fell to Rewi. The fallowing is a detailed account of theda>'s racing: — Handicap Hurdles, of 30sovs., over mk flights of huidles, 3ft. (!in. high. This was an exceedingly pretty match and was well contested. Rovvdv went to the front at the stait, and led until coming to the fifth hurdle, which Siwyer took a few lengths ahead of Ins opponent. Entering the straight Sawyer was still about a couple of lengths in advance, and Rowdy coming up, an exciting race ensued, (ioldsinith pushed this little hor-e, which, advancing gamely under the whip gridually gamed upon Bob, aud only I'.Ht, by about a ucso. (fning round to the back of the c >vise Rewi wan im>ught forvvaid, followed by Kalo, and both looked like taking the event to the in seh en. Kalo, however, soon displayed his bad tem|>ei, and waving his tail, refused to gallop. A beautiful race ensued, the other three continuing round on to the stiai o 'ht. Alphi was th • hi*t to show up, with Victory (lose on his (link, Rowinot far behind.
