THE LATEST AMERICAN INVENTION. The Victory ot Electricity. Since Electiicity has been applied for lighting purposes, nil efforts of inventors have been diiccted to construct a lamp for general dom< stic use. The icason why this pioblem lias till now not been solved, is that none of the inventors could rid thcniselses of the idea of gas lighting, and that all have adhered to the system of producing the Electricity in some central place, or by large maclnnciy, instead of fiist laying down the piinciple that a Lamp which should ever become generally useful and popular, miht be poi table, like an Oil Lamp, and contain the generator of Electiicity in itself, i.e., in the foot of the Lamp. The Norman Electiic Light Co. has at la^t siicceedid m completely realising tins ideil of Electiic Lighting, and there ii no doubt that this most lmpoitantin\eiition will In ing about a complete revolution in all blanches of lighting. Our Electiic Limp m-ats neither Matlnncii/, ( tiwlneti,)-, nor any expensive outlay, nnd is neither complicated, nor dmgreeable in manipulation ; all that is necissirj 13 to refill it e\ery four 01 five dajs with acid, tin rn*f of hi/fifmtf uxll be as c/imj) m //Hi ( ,' cents, per hour), and it has before the Litter the immense advantage of neither producing the heat, smoke nor carbonic acid, owing to which thi' air is not impurcd, and remains at the same degree of temperature. It is further, absolutely inodorous, and does not need to be kindled by match, or otherwise, but simply by turning the key, thus mm'/nn/ nil ihwga of Jiir, explosion or suffocation, as in the case of gas, if the key is left open ; and it must be conceded that this advantage alone is invaluable. It is further prefoi able to any known kind of lighting for the following reasons :—: — (1) Its manipulation is so simple that any child could keep it in order. (2) That the Lamp is portable, and can be removed like any Oil Lamp, fiom one place to another. (3) That it neither lequires the disagreeable fixing of the wick, or tha cleaning of the cylinder, as in the case of Oil Ltmp j . (I) That the light produced is a soft and most steady one; that it never flickers and the (lamp, though being equal in po<\ei of lighting to gas, can be regulated to any device. (.1) That run/ (hnit/n of/iir i\ ah<<o> Intih/ cjcl'kl"/, as the light will ox-tin-gins.!) immediately, if by any accident the gl.i'vs Miuonn ling the burner should be bioken ((>) That it will burn, even in the strontrest wind, oomph tely unaffected, thus being invaluable toi illuminations, lighting of gaidens comdoi», etc. This Limp is conducted for the pi esent in tin ee different si/es :—: — A small -i/o. Height of complete Lamp, 14 indies; weight about 3 pounds ; for lighting rooms, cellars, storage houses, powder magazines (or similar pi ices where explosives are kept), coiches, illuminations gudens. mines or an\ othei iiidiistnal put pose.
