The Frozen Meat Company. The following report was adopted at a meeting of the New Zealand I'Vo/.en Meat Company, to-day :—Having leg.ml to tins fact that the company would be in posse-, Mon of very large supplies of fresh and frozen moat, the diiector-> considered it de-arable to dispose of this business with a view to the better prosecution of the wholesilo trade. In so doing, however, care has been taken to reserve to the company entire freedom to lesume this line of business in the e\ent of circumstances rendeiuig it desirable that it .should be done. Auckland reclamation works, and buildings : The.se works ha\e been completed and the directors believe the. company's freezing plant to be the most complete in the Australian colonies while the c\tensire buildings afford considerable space for storage purposes. Butter busine-s : The company lias htted up a poition of their premises in oider to carry on business in butter for exportation. An unlimited mipply of cold ail (which is indispensable) from their fiee/.ing woiks enables them to enter into this branch with great advantage, and they have allotted sufficient space in their piemises for storing several hundred toiii of butter. They were induced to take tins step, nx they folt that while establishing the tiade profitably to the company tliey would affoid settlers a good and con \enient maiket for .ill the butter they can produce. The company receives butter in bulk, thus saving the settler the expense and tumble of making it up. They pay tlio market price in cash on delivery, and fix no limit to quantity which they will purchase. At present, the total purchased is about 10,0001bs. per week. While this nt.iy beconsideied Mtisf.ictoiy for the be g'nning, it is only reasonable to calculate that the turno\er in this industry will bo veiy large. Wholesale meat market: This blanch is in operation, and butchers fully realise the benefit of being able to purch.ine prime cuts or other parts from our freezing looms at all time.s. We were favoured with a visit from se\eral W.iikato settlers, and they were so satisfied with the appearance- of our fresh meat from Waikato that they at once entertained the idea of establishing abattoirs in their own district and utili/.'ng the company's meat market, which affords special facilities. They invited two of your dirocfors to Hamilton, when the matter lefeired to was fully discussed, and the conclusion armed at was, that the course mentioned would be in every way benchcial to their mteiest, and it was resolved to canvass the distiict, and if approved of to erect abattoirs at once. Acid and m mure, works: These works ,u« complete and the production of acids and various kinds of manure in full operation. Veiy ftiwmiable repot ts have bden received from .some of the company's customers as luv ing regard to the juices at which both manures and acid can be manufactured. The directors have every confidence in this branch of the company's business proving lemuneratne. Waitara woiks: These works comprise a large free/.mg estabhshim nt, and a veiy extensive tinning plant. Thecuimg-rortms. together with large slaughter yards, and necessary accommodation in the way of sheep and stock pens and sheltoi sheds, .no now finished, and in full wot king vrdei. Nothing is now wanting to lender these works complete in eveiy respect, while their ]>osition, commanding the uch pastures of the West Coast, ensures a supply of stock on the most favourable terms. Sydney ice work*, Pyrmont, Sydney: These works, one-half interest in which belongs to this company, are now in full and successful operation. It is understood that the building is now chaigcd with a store of some hundreds of tons of ico ready to com nience the summer season, and as the capabilities of production exceed thirty tons per diem it is confidently expected that a profit able lesiilt will ensue. Your directors regret th it the unexampled depression in frozen meat, tallow, pieserved meats, &c, inteifeies gieatly with the calculations upon which business was b,ised at the time the company was floated, but no exertions will be omitted to counteract this unfavourable state of affairs by utilising the resources of the company in othor directions.
