A man fired a shot at him, but uasm-rested by the bystanders ;nid [>l,iced in the custody of the police betore he could fire another shot. The prisoner preserves a reticent attitude, and will not divulge the motive that actuated him.
October 00. Further enquiries have revealed the fact that the would-be assassin of M. de Fre\ cinet is a Corsican. He admits ha\ injj premeditated the attempt, but had not stated his reason for the ciime.
November 1. The assailant of M. de Freycinet Ins been examined by medical men, who pronounce him to be insane.
