Ellis, howexei, quickly lighted him, and pulliujr X^rJenfeldt r<niiid, and up the inside of First Chestei gained inch by inch, and by .1 piece of masterly riding, just managed to get his horse's head in front, eventually winning by a nose, after a most desperate finish ; Winchester, a length away, thiid. Isonomy, Thunderbolt, Dnnlop, Uialla and Keinus finished in the order named. Hales had the, mount on Uralla, but was never dangerous throughout the race. Time— 2mm. 48<s. Denitt was up on Thundeibolt, and i'owei 1 rode Winchester, tho latter show ing that ho was handicapped by the heavy going of the ground. The performance of Nordonfeldt was, however, an estreinely good ono.
