It was considered desuable to offer a sum sufficiently large as to induce persons outside tho borough, rhoioughly competent and impartial men, to undertake the woik. Mr Sandes wished it to be put on iccoid that as one, of the special committee* appointed in this matter, ho had protested ;igainst going to .'irbiti.ition, an he believed tli.it tho matter could have been moie satisfactory settled by allowing it to go to a compenstation court. The town clerk was dnected to write to the Colonial Seciet'iiy 111 lefeienco to tho appointment of tho iegi~tiai of biitlis, deaths and inatriigcs, leqnesting that this oflioe should be hold eithei by the postmaster 01 the cl.'ik of the U M. Coiut, unless tho pic-ent holder of tho appointment, ])i. lieale, could make an angenients for having an office 111 a central position 111 the borough, and (ouldbe present fm the tiansaction of the business in connection with the department at stated hours each day.
