Sydney, October 27. The dispute between the Lambton colliers and coal trimmers at Newcastle and their employers is still unsettled, and there is every prospect of the strike being a prolonged one. A sculling match of £500 a-side and the championship of the world, has been arranged between Beach, the champion, and Teenier, who recently defeated Hanlan. Beach allows Teenier £100 expenses. It is announced that the new Parliament will nioet for transaction of business on the 17th November. The vacancies in the Cabinet, caused by the defeat of some Ministers and the resignation of others, will probibly be filled today.

Brisbane, October 2-i. Two hundred and fifty Japanese nave arrived by steamer at Cooktown. They have been engaged to work on the sugar plantations in Northern Queensland in lieu of the Polynesian labourers, who are now unobtainable.
