A fearful accident marred the day'n »[M>rt, the jockey Donald Nicholson (who rode Lord Exeter) being killed outright, and Cr.icknoll (uder of of Kingrfhip), McGrade (rider of Tom Brow n),Mc(i rath, rider of Prince Imperial), and Wyinond (rider r<f Sardius), ixMng all seriously injured. Cracknell had his cheat stovo in, and several ribs fractured, McGrath had his *kull fractured. Both canes nro considered hopeless. McGrade has a fractured shoulder, and Twomey several rib* broken. After several attempt* an indifferent ■tart was affected. Madcap was quickest in getting away, being closely followed by Winchester, Prince Imperial, and Claptrap. Despot and Coriolanm getting away very badly. When pacing the grand stand on tho first round Winchester assumed the command and took a strong lead, with Claptrap next, on the outside, and Yellow Hammer close up. At the back of tho course Winchester still led, followed by Claptrap, Pl&uuible, and Grace Darling. Approaching the home turn, the field drew up to the leaders, Too Too, SardiiiH, Prince Imperial, Tom Brown, and Marie Louine being prominrnt at this point. Before the turn was reached, Too Too, who began to show signs of di^tres, stumbled, bringing down Sardius, Claptrap, and thirteen others, completely altering the aspect of affairs, and ruining the chances of the whole of the leader*. Plausible was turned completely round. On entering the straight Conolanus led by a length, Britisher being spcond ; but the latter who had been biding his time now camt: up, and rapidly got on terms with, and p.nsed the leader. In, .the last half furlong ( Jrace Darling came with a rush, passed Conolanus and tackled Britisher, eventually winning easily by a length; Coriolnnus, two lengths from Britisher, being third ; followed by Hilltop, Mario Louise, and Lisbiii, in the order named. A Reuter'i telegram supplies tho following :— After some distance hod been gone, Too Too w.w seen to fall, and in a moment Sardius, Tarpoia, Tom Brown, Sirocco, Prince Imperial, Winchester, Lord Exetei, Hilltop, Claptrap, D^pot, Lucky Hit, Kingship, and Lord Wilton came to the ground in one confused mass, fourteen liorses in all having fallen. Donald Nic holnon, who was riding Lord Exeter, wast killed, vt hile S. Cracknell and several other jockeys were seriously injured. The horse Ifrar* was also killed. Blink Bonny, Britisher, Country Boy, Coiiolanu», Diik Hatteraick, (Jrace Darling, Impulse, Lantorn, Lesbia, Madcap, Minerva, Mo/.art, Plausible. Real Jam, Signor, St. Lawrence, Thn Andes, Urara, Velocipede, Yellow Hammer, Anglesey, Black Diamond, Gratitude, Marie Louisa, Vision, Welcome Jack, and The Israelite were thus left to continue the race. Grace Darling drew ahead, and won by a length, Britirther second, and Coriolaims third. Time, 2minr 40nec!*. Winchester led foi some distance, and was in a good position when tho accident occurred. The greatest excitement pre\ ailed among the hpectators when the horses fell. The ring win on the Cup and lose on the other racett.
