To Napier.

On the Saturday, after nearly a week's •tay in Wellington, we sailed fur Napier in the Te Anau. A* many of the members were returning at the same time, it was quite an interesting night to watch the crowd who came to see their friends and the steamer off. We started at 8 p.m., and the electric light on the wharf threw a oold weird light over everything. We were talcing North a- (food many passengers from Kngland by the Tongauro, ana the Te Anau was no crowded that several had to aleep on deck. We had a very quiet, fine pawage to Napier, where wearrivedat 3 p.m. in. next day, and had to be taken ashore in a imall (team tender, which small as it waa had to do considerable maneuvering to gtt in over the bar. We do not land at the town of Napier but at .the Spit, |a long ■andy neck of land running across the bay. Like Wellington, all the residences are perched on hills, and the appearance of t'nese from the harbour is quite pictureesque. \§ on theie short tripi one doe* not feel inclined to eat much on board, I was very

glad indeed to havo a. cup of tea and refreihinentlatn friend's house. Further than this I have not yet gone, but in my ne>ct letter I will tell you what I think of Napier and the surrounding country. Eclkctic.
