Cm so\, Bart, M.D., was charged on the mfounation of Cnustable Ryan with nanny, on the 21st inst , couiinitted a bieach of the Pohcu Oilences Act by obtaining the sum of £1 fiom Mrs Ellen Reiley under faKe pietences. Mrs Heiley, *wtuii, deposed that the ac cuspfl called at hei home and sold her some powdeis. She gave bun tl, which betook away with him to got changed, and pro. mised to bring the balance back to witness. He also promised to bung a medical woik which he left at the Commercial Hotel. He did not come back for some days. When she saw him next ho said he had spent the money, but was going to Rauginnhia, when he would get some money and bring her the change, but he failed to keep his promise. Accused asked the witness some rnmbling questions, which, however, had no bearing on the case. Constable Ryan deposed to artesting the accused at Kihikihi on the charge. On the way to the lock-up accused told the constable that he had received the pound from Mrs Reiley and cashed it .it the bank. He was afraid to cash' it nt the hotel as he owed some money and he was afraid they would stop his account and he would ha\e nothing left. He admitted hawng drank the money. Accused had no questions to ask this witness as he was unti uthf ul and would swear anything to suit the Govern-

ment.
