THE ALEXANDRA BRIDGE.

OIR Alexandra correspondent writes yes terday • -A memoiaiiduiii has been lecened from the Pubhc Woiks Ottice by the chair man of the town board, calling the attention of the board to the unsafe condition of the Alexandra, bridge, and notifying th.it unless tlie public bodies of the district see to its rep.vi, it will have to be pulled down, as it is menacing the safety of two other bridges below it. Isn't this cool ! The hon. John Kallance, when here, pionused £100 towards the repair of the bridge, but no more has been heard of it. The bridge itself n an absolute necessity to the town, being the connection nnd the only way firewood can be brought over to the ea^t «ide. The bridge was the first one built over the river by the men of the 2nd Waikat > regiment. It was not a Government work altogether, as several subscriptions were made toward* it, and work given. Its destruction would nlno be a breach of faith with those who reside and have lands on the wwturn side of the township, as it was always considered that a bridge would be maintained. It is to be hoped the Government will reconsider and get the bridge iepaued. The coht of a members' holiday trip on the Hineni'n will reconstruct it.
