THURSDAY. Thk Council met at half pas>t two p.m. Tho adjourned debate was lesinned on the question that the following resolution be agieed to:— "Thai; in establishing a sjstem of tehef for lhe aged and indigent poor, it is expedient that it should be conducted by boaidi elected by contubutois ; that the fund* to be administered should be deuved from endowments, vol-intiry con tnbutions, legacies, and subsidies fiom tho State ; that no special rates shall be leviable foi this purpose. 1 ' Sir F. Whitaker moved hib amendment. After a lengthy discussion the debate was inteirupted by the five o'clock adjourn ment. The Council met at half past seven. The debate on the questions of chatitible aid w.i" resume I. Both the ro-olntious of the committee and Sir Fiedenck Whitaker were l ejected by 21 to 8. The Council adjourned at a quarter past ten n.m.
